About Us

We are two American ex-pats living in Kyoto, Japan.  Kevin is an electrical engineer and works remotely for an American semiconductor company.  Megan is a human resources representative for an American veterinary hospital.  We moved here in July 2013 and are chronicling our adventures as well as more boring things like daily life while in Japan.  We arrived knowing almost zero Japanese, during the hottest part of the year with 2 suitcases each and have slowly started to grow roots.  Although our vocabulary and speaking ability are at about a 2 year old's level, we can order beer and umeshu (plum wine) just fine at all the restaurants (let's talk about what's important here).  In the US, we were very strict vegetarians and usually stuck to mostly vegan options.  It's much more difficult here in Japan, so we've opened up to the idea of seafood and some dairy and you'll notice that theme in most of our food posts- Kyoto is very well known for its tofu (we live a block away from a neighborhood tofu shop), so finding good vegetarian or pescatarian food is not too difficult.

Feel free to leave us a question or comment on our blog posts- we read them all!
