Sake Saturday!

An on-time blog, don't die of shock, we'll eventually get ourselves together and post regularly :-) The hurricane of Taiwan has kept us trapped inside, only running out in the rain to go to the Sake shop down the block from us. H-san's friend told us it's actually a really popular sake shop -photo to come when it's not raining.

This week, thanks to being trapped inside, we decided to do a sake
and umeshu (plum wine). H-san introduced us to plum wine, and it has quickly become a staple when we go out.
If you are in Japan the characters, we believe, you want to look for are: 梅酒

The blue bottle this week is sake and the cloudy red-ish bottle is umeshu.

The umeshu was delicious! It tastes similar to a carmel apple, sort of cinnamon-burnt sugar tasting. It was a delicious end to our somewhat spicy meal.

The sake (again from a non-discerning palate) had a good mouth feel, and was  mildly sweet and floral (according to Kev). Overall it was a good sake.  I think the key will be in finding what we think is good sake and then staying in that vein. Right now, we are going more for quality than flavor. Eventually we will get this right and have both taste and quality in a perfect balance.
