Of course after enjoying this bottle of sake, we went out with our friend H-san and he explained a little bit more about shopping for sake. Ideally, from what we understand, you want as many characters as possible in the line describing the sake.

The best part about learning Japanese is that when you add in font to the characters you once again have no idea what it says. So our sake may be of high quality or may not, we can't tell on this bottle.
The sake itself was (to the casual or novice sake drinker) good. If you are not a huge rice wine fan or have little experience with sake, this is a good starter. Simple, mildly sweet, and light. It has that sort of classic sake smell as well. If it was on a scale of one to ten, maybe a 5. Again, this is just our opinion, it very well could be the best sake in Kyoto (doubtful based on the price, $15USD).
Bonus photo: our first home cooked meal in Japan! Obviously from a few days ago, but still a really yummy meal of veggies and rice. We are really excited to try the fish broiler -we'll let you know how it goes.
Looks like a great meal! The sake label is beautiful.
